The last 7 days
The 7-day chart fills in as hourly readings build up, and shows once a coin has a full day of them. Readings started on 25 Oct.
What the funding rate is
Perpetual futures never expire, so something has to keep their price close to the coin itself. That something is funding: a payment between the traders holding longs and the traders holding shorts, not a fee to the exchange. Most exchanges settle it every 8 hours, and some every hour.
When the rate is positive, longs pay shorts. That happens when more traders want to be long and the futures price sits above the spot price. When it is negative, shorts pay longs.
How to read this page
- Every rate is per 8 hours. Exchanges that charge hourly are multiplied by eight, so all of them compare directly.
- The weighted average counts each exchange by its open interest, so the biggest markets count most. The median is the middle exchange.
- Around +0.01% per 8 hours is where many exchanges sit when neither side is pushing hard.
- Rates far above that, or below zero, show one side paying a lot to keep its positions open. That tells you where the crowd leans and that holding that side is getting expensive. It does not tell you when the move turns.
What funding costs you
Funding is charged on the full size of the position, not on your margin. A $10,000 long at +0.01% per 8 hours pays $1 three times a day: $3 a day and about $1,100 over a year, whatever leverage you used. On a trade you hold for days, that is a real cost. The break-even calculator adds the funding you have paid to your fees.
Where the numbers come from
Bentley reads each exchange's public market data for its own dashboard, and this page shows the same feed. Rates are refreshed every 5 minutes from the perpetual contract for each coin. An exchange that doesn't list a coin, or didn't answer, shows n/a. Exchanges whose open interest we can't verify still show their funding, but are left out of the weighted average.
Common questions
Who receives the funding payment?
The traders on the other side. When funding is positive, every long pays and every short receives, in proportion to position size. The exchange only passes it along.
When is funding paid?
On most exchanges at 00:00, 08:00 and 16:00 UTC, and every hour on some. You pay or receive only if you hold a position at that moment.
Is negative funding bullish?
Not on its own. Negative funding means more traders are leaning short and paying to stay there. Crowded positioning can unwind sharply, but it can also stay crowded for days. Read it as context next to price, open interest and the long/short ratio, never as a trade by itself.
